A világhírű tokaji bort termő Tokaj-Hegyalja, a csodálatos és érintetlen zempléni hegyek, erdők, a Bodrog és Tisza folyók alkalmas területei a rekreká-ciónak. A Rákóczi és Károlyi család kastélyainak, Sárospatak, Fűzér, Boldogkőváralja, Regéc várainak megtekintése a történelmi időkbe röpíti vissza az érdeklődőket.

A kulturális emlékek nemzetközi vonzású települései: Hollóháza, Sárospatak, Sátoraljaújhely, Tokaj, Vizsoly és mai aktualitásaik az igényes szellemi felfrissülés lehetőségeit kínálják.

A Zempléni Regionális Vállalkozásfejlesztési Alapítvány – a Magyar Turizmus Rt. Támogatásával – 1997-ben kidolgoztatta Zemplén térség turizmusfejlesztési tervét, melynek felmérései szerint a térség 104 településéből 71 a Zemplén üdülőkörzethez, 13 a Felső-Tisza üdülőkörzethez tartozik, Tokaj és környéke üdülési-idegenforgalmi adottságokkal rendelkező település, Karcsa és Pácin pedig műemléki település. Az idegenforgalmi települések száma így 87, ami a térség komoly turisztikai vonzerő együtteséről árulkodik.

A turizmusfejlesztési terv 12 térségi turizmustermék fejlesztésére, piacosítására tett javaslatot, melynek szakmai munkálatai térségi érdekelt önkormányzatok, vállalkozások bevonásával folynak.

A térségi turizmusfejlesztési terv ajánlásai alapján – hegyközi turisztikai vállalkozások kezdeményezésér – alakult meg a Zempléni Idegenforgalmi Szövetség, mely célul tűzte ki Zemplén turisztikai régió idegenforgalmi vállalkozásai között az együttműködés lehetséges és szükséges szintjének megteremtését, termékfejlesztési források bevonását, a közösségi marketing kialakítását.

Szövetségünk távlati célja, hogy a tágabb régióbeli természetvédelmi területek összekapcsolódásának generálásával, a térségi turizmustermékek folyamatos fejlesztésével, a belső és beutazó turizmus számára Zemplén sajátosan komplex és egyedi arculattal rendelkező desztinációként jelenjen meg Magyarország turisztikai kínálatában.

The easternmost part of north Hungary, the southern area of the historic Zemplén county, along with the slopes of Abaúj to the east of river Hernád provide tourist attraction both in the nature and the facilities created by man.

Tokaj-Hegyalja region, which gives the world famous Tokaj wines, as well as the beautiful untouched hills and forests of Zemplén and the rivers Bodrog and Tisza make a unit, suitable for recreation.

Through visiting old castles that formerly belonged to the Rákóczis and Károlyis and wandering among the walls of Sárospatak castle, or the ruins of Fűzér, Boldogkőváralja and Regéc fortresses invite the visitors back into historic times.

There are some places having gained internetional reputation in the respect of their cultural heritage: Hollóháza, Sárospatak, Sátoraljaújhely, Tokaj and Vizsoly, but they offer cultural refreshment to the exacting audience of these days.

The Zemplén Regional Enterprise Agency has had the regional tourism-development plan elaborated with the assistance of the Hungarian Tourism Rt. According to the preliminary surveys conducted, 71 out of 104 settlements in the region belong to the recreation area of Zemplén, while 13 of them are situated in the Upper Tisza recration zone. Tokaj itself and its surrounding settlements have tourist facilities, while Karcsa and Pácin ( in the Bodrogköz area ) are classified as historic settlements. The number of settlements having tourist importance is 87 altogether, which shows the presence of great attraction for tourists in the region. The previously mentioned five settlements have gainaed national reputation while 35 of them are also outstanding within the region.

The complex development plan outlined twelve potential products of tourist importance that area to be introduced in the market. The professional preparatory work has been launched with the assistance of the self-governments and the interested enterprises.

Following the suggestions in the regional tourism-development plan, the enterpreneurs in the Hegyköz region who are engaged in tourist industry, initiated the establishment of the Association for Tourism in Zemplén. The Association focuses on the co-operation among the ventures dealing with tourism, as well as on the activation of the potential resources in order to develop the products and to define the commonly used marketing principles.

The objectives of the Association in the long run include the uniting of the nature conservation areas and the constant improvement of the products of tourist importance.

This, Zemplén will appear as an attractive destinaiton for both domestic and incoming tourism, with its complexity and originality on the palette of the Hungarian tourist trade.
